Throughout my career, I have prioritized diversity, equity, and inclusion by engaging with underrepresented communities, enhancing fellowship programs, and fostering relationships with HBCUs and MSIs. My work has consistently aimed to create equitable opportunities and promote inclusive excellence in science and engineering fields.
During my fellowship tenure, I had the privilege of working with Brandon as he organized a session for me to deliver an educational research talk as part of GRP's Emerging ScienTalk Series. My talk was the first in the series so I was extremely anxious and nervous but Brandon professionally guided me throughout the process and ensured that everything that day went off without a hitch. I could not have asked for a better organizer of the session. Brandon also coordinated social media marketing for the event and facilitated a feature story on my research associated with the talk I delivered Dr. Kwame Owusu-Daaku, Associate Professor., University of West Florida
Program and Outreach Associate, Fellowships Office
In my role as Program and Outreach Associate, I collaborated with leadership to enhance the talent acquisition process and identified key vendors for marketing strategies. Leading outreach efforts to engage stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, I successfully promoted and marketed five fellowship programs, offering up to $80,000 in research funding.
Key Responsibilities and Achievements:
Marketing Budget Management: Oversaw a $420,000 marketing budget, ensuring all expenses aligned with budget parameters.
Program Administration: Managed and oversaw the review and selection process for two fellowship programs.
Social Media Growth: Successfully managed four social media accounts, growing the follower base to over 2,500.
Alumni Network Engagement: Engaged with alumni networks for four prestigious programs (Ford Foundation Fellowship, NRC Research Associateship Program, Jefferson Science Fellowship, and AFRL Fellowship Programs) on a quarterly basis, tracking the impact of each program.
Promotional Materials Development: Led the development and publication process for promotional materials for each program.
Program and Outreach Manager, Fellowships Office
Following an equity audit, I was promoted to Outreach and Marketing Manager. In this role, I focused on developing partnerships, overseeing marketing material and digital asset production, and revising policies to align with organizational restructuring.
Key Responsibilities and Achievements:
Budget Procurement: Secured over $500,000 to manage marketing initiatives and collaborated with more than 10 vendors.
Awareness and Advertising: Researched and evaluated advertising opportunities to improve awareness of fellowship programs for BIPOC researchers, scientists, and engineers, reducing advertising costs by approximately 3.8% through successful vendor negotiations.
Tradeshow Facilitation: Organized and facilitated over 10 annual tradeshow events to increase brand awareness and promote equitable research funding opportunities, ranging from $24,000 to $65,000.
Stakeholder Relationships: Established and maintained relationships with over 50 stakeholders and third-party vendors

Fellowship Program Restructuring: Evaluated and restructured fellowship programs to ensure alignment with BIPOC, HBCUs, and underinvested communities in the Gulf of Mexico region.
Process Streamlining: Streamlined processes across departments to enhance collaboration and efficiency.
Project Execution: Successfully executed a project prospectus aimed at diversifying and expanding the GRP Early-Career Research Fellowship and Science Policy Research Fellowship programs.
Webinar Series Development: Developed, moderated, and facilitated the monthly Emerging ScienTalks webinar series for alumni, K-12 educators, and industry experts.
Storytelling Competition: Designed and led the NASEM In Times of Crisis: Stories from the Gulf of Mexico storytelling competition and advisory committee.
Marketing Campaign Oversight: Oversaw GRP Board on Gulf Education and Engagement marketing campaigns, including email communication, social media advertising, and other digital outreach mediums.
Material Production: Managed the production of written materials and digital assets on diversification, scientific, and engineering topics for internal and public dissemination.
Data Analysis: Analyzed data and metrics to produce reports for sponsors and to inform and modify strategic plans.
Higher Education Relationships: Established relationships with leaders at HBCUs and MSIs in the US Gulf of Mexico and East Coast regions.
Strategic Marketing and Communication: Expertise in developing and executing strategic plans to attract participants and volunteers.
